While the Russian River flows south from above Ukiah, hundreds of miles of the Eel River and its' tributaries flow north to empty into the Pacific.
For an armchair viewing, the helicopter chase scenes in the movie Outbreak with Dustin Hoffman were filmed in and along the Eel river basin.

These are but a few of more than forty plus films made in Mendocino County since the turn of the century. Recently a new film, Heartwood, was partially filmed in the northwestern area of the county.
