Engineer Castle BrassEngineer Castle Brass 588th Reunion
15 & 16 June, 1998

The battalion change of command was 18 June 98. LTC Marc Hildenbrand relinquished command to LTC Edward Cardon after LTC Hildenbrand's two years with the battalion.

If I may take the liberty, on behalf of the alumni of the 588th Combat Engineer Battalion, the 362nd L.E. Company which was attached to us, the 388th Engineer Battalion (Separate), and the 388th General Services Regiment, I wish to sincerely thank the men and women of the present day 588th Engineer Battalion at Fort Hood, for extending their hospitallity and comraderie to all us previous vets who served with the Battalion.

They layed out the red carpet, and seeded a new tradition for the 588th, an Annual Reuion. As you will see from the archived information below, they were prepared to provide many activites for us, while at the same time doing their normal duties. I would say that this is above and beyond the call, but then as you know, that has been part of the tradition of the 588th. I am truly heartened that the 588th continues to extend itself, as was the tradition when we were in Tay Ninh.

Thank You.

Jon.

The date is set. The 588th Engineer Battalion will hold it organizational Day on 15 June 98. The 588th Alumni Reunion is slated for the 15th and 16th of June. Major events are not worked out exactly, but I believe that we have enough to make an announcement on the webpage. Can you post the official invitation to all alumnus on the webpage when we send it to you? I plan on using the webpage for broadest dissemination, and personal phone contact for the alumnus that we have phone numbers for. Your thoughts. Also, I am working the 588th Unit recognition plaque design. This plaque I remind you is placed with honor into the engineer regimental room at Ft Leonard Wood. My concept design has the 588th/388th crest in the center, with the unit history, lineage and honors, a pictorial graphic for the canol project/WWII, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and an appropriate design for the other locations that the 588th served (i.e. Ft Belvoir, Ft Polk, Ft Hood). Are you good at design work? Again, your thoughts.

The POC for the Reunion is myself at (254) 288-7011, or by email

Bob

My notes. Well, if I ever knew what a POC was officially, I forgot, but I think I get the picture.

Captain Robert (Bob) Bayham is the current company commander of Company A, 588th Engineer Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas. You might like to know that Bob started out his career as a 62 Echo, and has worked his way up. He has been an invaluable resource in the development of this 588th Engineer Battalion website, and I wish to publicly thank him, and Colonel Hildenbrand, Battalion commander, for their help, support, and encouragement.

Since the 588th is currently in training at Fort Irwin through March, I would guese that and email to the above address might get a timelier response.

In regards to the plaque, any of you artistic 388th/588th vets out there are heartily invited to participate in it's creation. The cost is being defrayed by alumni and active member contributions, along with some limited sales of the investment-cast bronze Battalion Coins.

As reunion events evolve, I will post the latest information on this page.

All the Best ... Welcome Home, Brother

Jon
