This bbridge was at the edge of Katum as you entered from Tay Ninh. I can't
remember, but I think C Co, 588th may have put the bridge in. Maybe someone
may shed some light on it. The picture was taken in April 1970.

This photo was of the Welcome we posted to all entering Cambodia through the
road from Tay Ninh to the FSB at Katum and onward. I have a deep passion for
this picture. As you can see, it has suffered and bears the scars of battle
just as 588th has. Like the 588th, it endured and displays our heritage
proudly.
The 588th as I recall built the only road of three attempted in the Parrots
Beak and Fish Hook area that was ever completed and functional.

What can I say ... I worked for him to when I was in S-3. This photo was sent by John Hirsch who also worked S-3 as the CO's driver. Is that mimeograph fluid I smell. |

Alright, you guys; who took my sunblock? Next to bunker in between our hootches in HHC. John Hirsch |

When was the last time you saw a 15 cent beer. About 30 years ago. Another shot in HHC hootch area. John Hirsch |

A photo of our inner sanctum. This is inside the S-1/S-2/S-3/Medics hootch. The third guy from the left is Wayne Rushing and the right elbow is probably mine or Paul Luers'. John Hirsch |

I took this picture of an awards ceremony in the HHC compound. As I recall, the 1st Louie rescued some children from the minefield we were expanding around FSB Santa Barbara. I think it was the Soldiers Medal. He was a real decent guy. The presenter was the CO of 20th Brigade. (I think) Jon Hollcraft |

This photo is an overhead taken by one of our good buddies in the 187th AHC coming into Tay Ninh Base Camp. An excellant shot. Many thanks to the 187th for all the times they saved our butts with their extrordinary 2 minute response time when the stuff started coming in to camp. Special thanks to Mike Hodges (187thahc@kbi.org) for finding the photographer. Thanks to Tom Tesmar (ttesmar@pressenter.com) |

You guys remember good ole 'Bear'. He is the guy on the left sharing a moment with another brother in HHC compound. The hand saw needed time to cool off. I'l never forget that morning Sgt. Trollinger asked where 'Bear' was during moring roll-call (in the S-4 yard). The whole platoon was in stitches. Jon |

E-ticket Ride. While waiting for my slot at Wolters rotary school, this was almost the next best thing. Look but don't touch. Darn. Jon |

Ah yes, a gathering of the Supreme Concil of HHC hootch, along with other dignitaries. This historic meeting resulted in the demise of several cases of beer, and was such a success, further meetings were held. As we eagerly awaited the arival of the keynote speaker, Lord Falstaff, we used our time wisely, planning the next day's mission. Jon |

Although this is not a 588th picture, It shows some of the work done by the 19th up north. Someone named Jim B. sent it via email. It is a bridge they built across the Bongsong River. |

Another photo from Jim B. of the 19th. They carried the timber tressle bridge training from Leonard Wood a step further using alot of steel. Nice work, guys. |
